I know that people can get 'powerpointed out' - been there! - but I do use powerpoint quite a bit these days, so here are some of my powerpoint presentations with their notes pages.  I never work from a full script in these sessions, so if the powerpoint slides do not speak for themselves or the notes pages do not give you the gist of what it might be about, then I can only plead that you try to imagine the connections or the theme .... I now use very little animation or transition in my powerpoints and whatever animation or transition might have been used originally in some of the presentations here has been removed.

INDEX

1 39 Years in Ordained Ministry

I did this at the inaugural meeting of the Alumni of the South West Ministry Training Course in 2008 (though the title then was '37 years ...') and updated it for the Friday Fellowship of St Mary's Methodist Church on the Isles of Scilly on October 15th 2010.  It is autobiographical, but also saying something about the future of ordained ministry in the church.

2 Fundamentalism

This is the powerpoint presentation which accompanies the text of lecture 13 ('Fundamentalism') on the lectures page of this website, which was a study day in the Continuing Ministerial Education programme of the Diocese of Truro and the Cornwall Methodist District held on 26.1.09.

3 Psalms

This presentation was the keynote address at a joint conference of the Church Music Society and the Methodist Church Music Society held at Swanwick in the autumn of 2003.

4 Messiah

The Open to Question? group I run monthly at the Cathedral wanted to discuss 'Messiah', and this is the little powerpoint I put together to start off the discussion.

5 Paul

They (the Open to Question? group) also wanted to look at Paul, so I put this one together.

6 Creeds

And questions about the Creeds keep cropping up at Open to Question?, not least why we are stuck in the 21st century with unintelligible credal statements from the 4th.  So I put this one together just to convey the facts about how we got the Creeds we have.

7 Athanasius - Parts 1-7

This is the powerpoint presentation of a study day in the Continuing Ministerial Education programme of the Diocese of Truro and the Cornwall Methodist District held on 2.2.11 called 'The Bible in England from Athanasius to The Message'.  It wasn't divided into seven parts on the day, just divided by coffee breaks, lunch and loo stops by the clock.  It is divided here because it's too big to go up in one go.

14 Making sense of Book of Revelation

This is the first part of an evening at my Open to Question? group at Truro Cathedral on 8.5.11 when we were looking at the question 'How do we make sense of the Book of Revelation?'.  The other question we asked that night was 'How do we make sense of the End of the World/Second Coming etc?', or rather, 'Is there a mainstream church view of the End of the World/Second Coming etc'?  And that half of the evening is powerpoint 15.

15 Making sense of the End of the World/Second Coming

This is the second part of the evening at my Open to Question? group at Truro Cathedral on 8.5.11 which began with the question 'How do we make sense of the Book of Revelation?' which is powerpoint 14.  The other question we asked that night was 'How do we make sense of the End of the World/Second Coming etc?', or rather, 'Is there a mainstream church view of the End of the World/Second Coming etc'?

16 Why bother with the Old Testament?

This is, and always has been, a real question for Christians, and it was one I was asked to address in a Study Day for Methodist Local Preachers in the Ceredigion Circuit in west Wales on May 14th 2011.  This powerpoint makes a good parallel to the lecture I gave to Lincoln Theological Society ten days later (see the Lectures page).

17 The Bible - Good Sense or Dangerous Nonsense?

As part of the 400th anniversary celebrations of the King James Bible, the Cornwall District of the Methodist Church put on a 'BibleFresh Day' on May 21st 2011.  I was on the panel for a Question Time and also presented this seminar.

18 Gospel of Mark

This is the powerpoint presentation of a study day in the Continuing Ministerial Education programme of the Diocese of Truro and the Cornwall Methodist District held on 13.10.11 headed 'Preaching the Gospel in Year B', the year when Mark is the Gospel to be read.

19 Savage Old Testament?

This is the powerpoint presentation of a study day in the Continuing Ministerial Education programme of the Diocese of Truro and the Cornwall Methodist District held on 19.1.12 headed 'Can Christians really read the Old Testament'.

20 Reading Psalms - Sarum College

This is the powerpoint I used at Sarum College on Monday February 6th 2012 to introduce a four day course on Reading Psalms.
